Chief Seattle in his epic speech at Mukilteo, Washington, prophetically outlined the relationship between the living things that share this planet and the consequences of not respecting and honoring that relationship.  “The earth does not belong to man,” he said.  “Man belongs to the earth.”  It was probably appropriate that a lighthouse was built on the spot where he gave that beatitude.

I grew up hunting and fishing—even worked as a commercial fisherman in Alaska.  Frankly, capturing an image of a living thing is more fulfilling to me than taking its life—even though I know that dying is as much a part of every life as living.  I like the thrill of the hunt, and the satisfaction of capturing an image of something wild without taking something from it.
